Therapeutic & Educational Placement Specialist

Dr. Callahan has developed a keen sensitivity to the risk factors associated with the teenage years and the positive outcomes that are possible. As an educational and therapeutic placement specialist since 2000, he has worked with families from around the country to find the opportunity that may be the best fit for their child’s strengths and needs.

His educational background consists of a B.S. in Psychology from The Ohio State University, an M.A. in School Psychology from Fairfield University and a Ph.D. in Special Education from The University of Connecticut. In addition to his formal education, Dr. Callahan has extensive training and experience through working in a group home and psychiatric hospital, as well as in public and independent schools on the local and state levels. He is also qualified as an expert witness in litigation regarding the developmental and emotional needs of secondary school students.

Dr. Callahan has spoken on numerous occasions to educator and parent groups, and has several recent publications in the area of teaching and learning on the high school level. He leads an annual research project with Research Schools International through the Harvard Graduate School of Education, has performed nearly 1,000 Psychoeducational Evaluations and is a past executive committee member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA).
